Coast to Coast Surf school was formed in 2004, as a mobile surf school with a simple aim to teach "the art of surf riding on the best beginner beaches".

As a family run business we have grown organically with a philosophy where staff and customers are central – producing the best lessons and courses possible for our customers in a friendly, safe and informative way. We provide top quality equipment that provides warmth in the water and performance in the wave.

We have grown each year since, and now employ experienced instructors in all our sports and operate on all three coastlines in Scotland annually.

Our junior development programme has produced multiple Scottish team members and a few national champions. Our staff also had a European championship junior semi finalist 2018 and a senior finalist in 2017 (the first ever Scottish surfer to make a final). Sam, our senior instructor was also Scottish junior team coach in Morrocco European Championships 2016, with Scotland finishing 9th their best result to date.

We have clients from all backgrounds and age bands, from primary and secondary schools to businesses and sports groups. We are also involved with inclusive projects offering surfing as a positive force for changing lives!

We are proud to announce the new Belhaven community surf centre opened in Sept 2019. Offering a wonderful space for coastal education right on Belhaven beach, we hope that the building will act as a catalyst for making inclusive surfing, sports performance and participation alongside safety and environmental education integral within in our local surf community and younger surfers. We are delighted to be sharing the building with the Wave Project, Dunbar Surf Lifesaving and East Lothian Countryside Rangers. We are also excited and committed to the creation of a new Belhaven surf club in 2021, dedicating time, staff and kit use to get this up and running.

In 2020 we planted 220 trees as part of bio diversity commitment to plant a tree for every junior course and every surf tour that year. Coast to Coast have had a consistent commitment to the environment since we started in 2004, organising beach cleans, coastal education within our lessons and have digital and physical no trace policy on our travels. In 2021 we want to launch a new environmental plan with commitments for the next decade to tackle our own carbon footprint, energy needs and reduce our waste. We also want to incentivise our customers and local community to do the same moving towards better ways to travel, address plastic consumption and look at re-wilding closer to home. We are also making an increased commitment to integrate better environmental and wildlife training to our staff.

Events wise we host two community events a year – the Coast to Coast Lowland longboard surf champs, normally in the autumn ,which is a fun laid back surf event celebrating skill on the longer boards. We also host the Surf Sprints, a flat water surf safety community event normally in June based on lifeguard and flat water fitness paddle and swim skills. This has primarily been aimed at local teams/clubs – offering a fun event to  develop water confidence and skills in the sea!
