Surf Theory Lessons

Surf theory lessons are an essential part of becoming a skilled and safe surfer. Understanding wave dynamics, ocean currents, and weather patterns can make all the difference in your ability to catch waves and avoid dangerous situations.

By learning about the science behind surfing, our students gain a deeper appreciation for the ocean and the sport. We also emphasise the importance of proper surf etiquette and safety protocols, which can help prevent accidents and injuries.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer, taking surf theory lessons with us will enhance your overall surfing experience and help you reach your full potential.

Beginner surf theory lessons

We gain knowledge usually through experience or conversation with the more experienced. In Scotland, the surf community is still relatively young with the transfer between surfing generations relatively new.

At Coast to Coast, we aim to close the gaps in knowledge and accelerate your understanding surrounding the simple surf experience. The aim is to help you predict the correct days to surf, choose the right locations, surf better on the correct equipment and stay safer in the water!

Beginner classes are open to complete beginners and improvers and run on Wednesday nights from 8-9pm at the surf centre, between May and September.

  • Introduction to Surf Forecasting – First Wednesday of month
  • Introduction to Surf Environment – Second Wednesday of month
  • Introduction to Surf Equipment – Third Wednesday of month
  • Introduction to Surf Safety – Fourth Wednesday of month
  • Beginner Surfer Body Dynamics – Arranged monthly on our website

Intermediate surf theory lessons

As we grow in knowledge and experience, the environments we surf in and the equipment we ride change.

When we progress, there are a whole new set of experiences ahead. At Coast to Coast, we give you tips and knowledge to help your development as you enter the intermediate stage.

Intermediate theory classes are open to improver or intermediate surfers and run on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm at the surf centre, between May and September.

  • Intermediate Surf Forecasting – First Wednesday of month
  • Intermediate Surf Environment – Second Wednesday of month
  • Intermediate Surf Equipment – Third Wednesday of month
  • Intermediate to Surf Safety – Fourth Wednesday of month
  • Intermediate Surfer Body Dynamics – Arranged monthly on our website
