Belhaven Surf Junior success 2025

Scottish Junior Surfing Competition – Belhaven Surf Club at Sandend

Belhaven Surf Club travelled to Sandend on the Moray coast for the final leg of the Scottish Junior Surfing Competition series.

The Junior Series is a set of events designed to test the skills of young surfers across Scotland. This year the competitions were held in Fraserburgh, Thurso, Aberdeen and Sandend.

Expectations were high for the final event, and the surfers were rewarded with clean shoulder to head high waves in the sunshine.

Strong Results for Belhaven Surf Club

The Belhaven team performed extremely well throughout the event.

Seven of the nineteen finalists came from the club, showing the strength of the junior programme.

Dylan Whaley (Dunbar) was the youngest finalist and finished 3rd in the Mixed Under 12 division.

In the Under 14 Girls division, Tessa Russell (Dunbar) placed 4th while fellow club member Erin Paterson (North Berwick) delivered an outstanding performance to win the title.

In the Under 14 Boys division, Joel Christopherson (Dunbar) finished 3rd in a very strong field that included several national team surfers.

Under 18 Finals

In the Under 18 Girls final, Rosie Moore (Dunbar), aged just 15, surfed well to reach the final and finished in 4th place behind three more experienced competitors.

The Under 18 Boys division was one of the standout events of the competition. Belhaven Surf Club had two surfers in the final.

Charlie Pugh (North Berwick) surfed a series of strong waves to take 3rd place.

Tam Hood (Dunbar) delivered an impressive performance with powerful surfing that showed speed, power and flow, securing the Under 18 Boys title.

A Big Year for the Club

Belhaven Surf Club head coach Sam Christopherson said he was extremely proud of the team’s achievements.

I’m really pleased for all our young surfers that took part this year. It’s great to see juniors who started with Coast to Coast Surf School in the last two to five years graduate into the high performance surf club and now win national titles or be selected to compete internationally.”

Several surfers from the programme are now preparing to travel to Peru for the World Junior Surfing Championships with the national team.
