But, before you dive into the salty sea, we need to lay down some ground rules. Yes, we know, terms and conditions aren’t exactly the most thrilling thing to read, but trust us, they’re important. We want to make sure that everyone’s safety is our top priority and that we’re all on the same page when it comes to having fun in the sun. So, take a deep breath, put on your reading glasses (or your best beach shades), and let’s dive into the nitty-gritty details of what you can expect from us at Coast to Coast Surf School.
Coast to Coast Surf School is based at the Belhaven Surf Centre, 36 Back Road, Belhaven, Dunbar, EH42 1NX.
The surf school operates lessons, courses and hires on Belhaven beach and the surrounding coastline. If you are participating in one of our mobile tours we will confirm locations in advance.
All participant must book online in advance of lessons, courses, hires or surf camps. To secure bookings you must have completed booking form, given parental consent (if applicable) and paid either in full or a 50% deposit.
All participants must be able to swim 50m and disclose any medical issues during the booking process that may impact or prohibit their participation in an activity.
Full payment must be received before participating in activities. We accept cash, card or online booking payments. Payment can be made online in advance or in person at our surf centre.
We will notify all participants, for lessons and hires, the evening before, to notify whether the activity will have suitable conditions (waves/ winds and weather). In the event conditions are not suitable, we will offer the chance to book another activity/ sport or re-schedule.
All surf tours and surf camps, will run with multiple activities, classroom theory, land training and video analysis sessions in the event conditions are not suitable for the primary activity. In the event of prolonged extreme weather conditions (high winds/ storms/ thunder and lightening) that make it dangerous to continue we will look at alternative locations, re-schedule or refund. Please note junior surf camps will run multi sport activities in flat conditions and no refunds will be given.
All participants, whilst using or renting our surf, paddleboard or skate equipment, take full responsibility of said equipment for the entire duration of use. It must returned to us in the same condition you received it. Should there be any damage to the equipment whilst in your use, you will be liable to pay for any repairs or replacements.
Hirers must have had a lesson with an approved instructor or be hiring with a person who has.
Coast to Coast’s senior instructors assessment of safe conditions will be final. U16’s must have adult supervision.
All hiring of surf boards will take place at Coast to Coast risk assessed venues. Coast to Coast equipment may not be used outwith these areas other than with the prior written approval of a senior instructor.
All hire customers will have safety knowledge of rips/currents and a basic understanding of wind and surf effects. They should also be aware of hazards in the sea, and how to control equipment around other people.
Customers should also be aware of basic surf etiquette for their level and the rules of surfing.
When hiring equipment, you are responsible for your own well being in the surf and coastal zone.
Coast to Coast Surf School will show the upmost duty of care to all individuals in our surf lessons in accordance with our health and safety policy, EAP and NOP. However, we will not be responsible for damage to a third party (person or property).
Coast to Coast Surf School will put safety above all other concerns. If we deem any individual or group unfit to surf, or to be a danger to yourself or others, then you will be refused participation, or asked to leave.
When booking a lesson with coast to coast surf school we will make every effort to ensure you have a successful session in your chosen activity.
If conditions do not allow us to proceed with the chosen activity, we will offer the chance to re-schedule or choose an alternative activity.
All customers have 1 year to reschedule any activity that is cancelled from the point of cancellation.
Vouchers must be used within 1 year of purchase. Extensions will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
Coast to Coast supply new and second hand equipment from the Belhaven Surf Centre. We post to UK mainland only and all orders are subject to customer communication first. We insist on sending all orders recorded delivery and postage costs (where applicable) are payable at point of sale.
Should there be an issue with your product or service and you wish to return at any stage please get in touch and we will try to sort out any problems as quickly as possible. For new equipment, we accept returns within seven days of receipt by the customer where the item is returned in original packaging and condition. We regret equipment cannot be returned after being used in water.
For second hand sales items are sold as seen. Unfortunately, no refunds are available. But Items can be exchanged for an item of the same value if for example they don’t fit, provided these are returned within 7 days of purchase and are in the same condition as sold. If the item is not in a similar condition as the alternative there maybe a price difference to be paid on the day by either party.
For new or second hand equipment payment in full is required at point of order.
Lesson or hire bookings cancelled inside 48 hours’ notice will be non refundable.
Any cancellations between 48 hours and 14 days will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations 15 days or more in advance of your booking date will receive a full refund.
For group bookings of 8 or more, please double these requirements for notice time for cancellations.
Any booking for a surf camp/ tour or course cancelled inside 14 days will result in all monies paid to date being non-refundable.
Any cancellations between 15 and 30 days in advance of the booking date will receive a 50% refund.
Cancellations 30 days or more before your booking date will receive a full refund.
If you wish to rearrange a lesson or hire, we require at least 48 hours’ notice, and will do our best to find a suitable time for you.
If you wish to rearrange a course or surf camp, we require 14 days notice, and will do our best to find a suitable alternative for you.
Should Coast to Coast Surf School cancel your lesson, hire, course or surf camp, we will offer the chance to reschedule over one year from date of original booking, offer alternative activities to the same value or if we cannot offer a suitable alternative refund all monies paid to date in full.
Should you arrive to late for your activity, we will make all efforts to try and include you but your late coming may result in you forfeiting your lesson/course and you will not be eligible for a refund.
Coast to Coast Surf School will not cancel on the basis of rain. However, we will cancel if the surf, sea and wind conditions are deemed detrimental and unsafe.
Schools/ corporation or other large groups (8 or more) will be liable for payment in full should they cancel 14 days in advance of the booked date
In the event of a national pandemic, natural disaster, war or terrorism or any other act of god and you are unable to attend your lesson, or we are unable to deliver any of your activity booked due to government travel restrictions and guidelines, we will issue you with a full refund for any monies paid to date.
If you are affected by COVID-19, either primarily or secondary, and are unable to attend your lesson due to self-isolating or similar, and we are unable to rearrange your booking, we will issue you with a full refund for any monies paid to date.
All our activities can carry a degree of risk both to people and property, even if under proper supervision by qualified instructors.
Our activities can involve strenuous activity that requires those taking part to have a reasonable standard of swimming and fitness.
Our lessons can carry moderate risk of minor cuts and bruises and a very small risk of more serious incident.
Our instructors follow robust operational procedures to reduce these risks as far as possible without impeding adventurous nature of the activity.
All customers participating in lessons must make the school aware of any medical conditions, illnesses or allergies which might affect the customers ability to safely participate in the lesson or course.
No one should participate in a lesson if pregnant or suffering from a heart condition.
We also expect customers to follow instructions at all times for your own safety.
All customers must be able to swim 50m unaided.
No customer should participate in the activities while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
The company does not seek to limit or exclude any liability for personal injury or loss of life which may occur as a result of its own negligence or that of its employees, officers or agents however, the school assumes no liability in respect of personal injury, loss, damage, consequential loss or third party claims which occur through no fault of its own, its employees, officers or agents.
All other liability or conditions implied by law are excluded to the fullest extent possible.
In addition to our booking terms and liability, we expect all surf camp customers to have their own insurance for all eventualities including 3rd party injury.
Coast to Coast takes no responsibility for any extra costs the customer may face from cancellation of a surf camp subject to external factors out with Coast to Coast Surf School’s control. Examples of this could be ferries being cancelled, pollution incidents, pandemics, war or terrorism. This list is not exclusive.
All liability with regard to sharing fellow customers transportation is at own risk and with the driver and vehicles insurance.
Coast to Coast does not own any of the accommodation we may stay in. Any complaints and liability claims should be made with the accommodation provider directly.
We sometimes take pictures/videos in lesson, courses, tours or hires as a memento of your experience or for training/marketing purposes in compliance with the GDPR guidelines.
We offer the opportunity for you to tick a box on booking that you do NOT wish your image or any of the participants’ images to be used in this way.
Coast to Coast Surf School is an accredited Scottish Surf Federation surf school.
It is committed to offering the very best in lessons and customer service, and is committed to effectively, efficiently, and fairly handling all complaints.
If you are unhappy with any of our Coast to Coast services, then any complaint will be treated seriously, investigated thoroughly, and dealt with accordingly.
