Belhaven Surf Junior success 2025

Belhaven Surf Club travelled to Sandend on the Moray coast with a young team, for the final leg of the Junior Series. A series of competitions testing surf skills in our young surfers around Scotland. This year the competitions were held in Fraserburgh, Thurso, Aberdeen and Sandend.

We had high expectations of a great competition and were not disappointed being greeted with shoulder to head high clean waves in the sunshine!

Our club surfed really well with seven of the nineteen finalists. Dylan Whaley (Dunbar) was the youngest of our finalists finishing 3rd in the mixed under 12yrs. Tessa Russel (Dunbar), finished 4th in the U14yrs with fellow club member Erin Paterson (North Berwick) the stand out winning the title. In under 14yrs boys Joel Christopherson (Dunbar) finished 3rd in a high quality field of national team surfers.

In the U18yrs girls Rosie Moore (Dunbar) just 15yrs surfed well to make the final and 4th behind three more experienced surfers. In the U18yrs boys, the stand out event Belhaven Club had two finalists. Charlie Pugh (North Berwick) put a series of great waves together for 3rd. Tam hood (Dunbar) put together excellent waves that showed speed, power and flow to win the title.

Head coach of the Belhaven Surf Club, Sam Christopherson said he was “really pleased for all our young surfers that took part this year, its great to see juniors that have started with Coast to Coast Surf school in the last 2-5 years, graduate to the high performance surf club and are now winning national titles or being selected to head to Peru with the national team for the world junior surf championships”

This was the final event of the Junior Series with Belhaven having two national series winners and five surfers in the top three in their age band.
