Scottish National and Lowland Longboard Surfing Championships 2024 coming to South East Scotland

Scottish National Longboard Championships 2024 at Pease Bay

The Scottish Surfing Federation is delighted to announce that the Scottish National Longboard Championships 2024, sponsored by Finisterre, will take place at Pease Bay on 27–28 April 2024.

This event will also combine with the Lowland Longboard Championship, welcoming longboarders from across the UK and beyond to compete alongside Scotland’s best surfers.

The organisers would like to thank the event sponsors and supporters who have helped make the competition possible. These include Lost Shore, Verdant Leisure, and Far Cabinet Makers, who have created the new longboard trophies.

Special thanks also go to Coast to Coast Surf School, Belhaven Surf Club, and EBSC for helping organise the event. We also appreciate the judging team travelling from across the UK, as well as beach lifeguards Martin and Owen for supporting safety during the competition.

Competition Categories

The Scottish National Longboard Championships and Lowland Longboard Championship will include six competition divisions.

  • Male Division Scottish Longboarding
  • Female Division Scottish Longboarding
  • Male Junior Under 18 Division Scottish Longboarding
  • Female Junior Under 18 Division Scottish Longboarding
  • International Longboarding Male Division
  • International Longboarding Female Division

All longboards used in competition must be a minimum of 9 feet in length.

Entry Rules

Adult competitors may enter one division only.

Junior surfers may enter both the junior and adult divisions.

Scottish Competitors

Scottish surfers should enter the divisions labelled Scottish. These divisions will run to completion and determine the Scottish National Champions for 2024 in the male, female, junior boys and junior girls categories.

International Competitors

International surfers may enter the International divisions. These divisions will run through to their final stages but will not determine a final champion within those divisions alone.

Instead, finalists from the Scottish and International adult divisions will combine to compete for the Lowland Longboard Championship 2024.

Lowland Longboard Championship Format

Once the Scottish adult finals are complete and the International finalists are decided, competitors will combine into seeded semi-finals.

For example:

Semi Final 1 – Scottish finalist 1, International finalist 2, Scottish finalist 3, International finalist 4.

The top two surfers from each semi-final will then advance to the grand final to compete for the Lowland Longboard Champion 2024 title.

Eligibility and Seeding

To compete in the Scottish National Longboard Championships, surfers must meet the eligibility criteria set by the Scottish Surfing Federation.

Scottish competitors should enter the divisions labelled Scottish. Event seeding will be based on the 2023 Scottish Championships results.

International competitors must not be Scottish but may be from any other country, including England, Wales, Ireland, or other European nations. These surfers should enter the divisions labelled International. Seeding will be based on the 2023 Lowland Championships.

Scottish under 18 surfers may enter both the junior and adult divisions. International juniors must enter the International adult divisions.

All entries must be completed through the Scottish Surfing Federation website, and competitors must hold a current SSF membership.

Event Information

Event updates such as heat draws and running orders will be published during the week leading up to the competition.

Competition entries will close on Sunday 21 April at 22:00. Entry numbers are limited, so competitors are encouraged to register early.

All competitors will be invited to join a WhatsApp group where the latest event updates will be shared.

If the event needs to be postponed due to weather conditions, the decision will be made by Thursday evening, 25 April. The competition will then automatically move to the following weekend. A similar weather call will be made the following Thursday if needed.

Because entry numbers are limited, the event can also run as a single-day competition if conditions require it.
